The Technical Sales Engineer is an accomplished technical sales professional that is mainly responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with customers in defined markets as well as key accounts. A primary focus of this position will be developing a sales plan to ensure that important and promising customers are covered and supported properly. This position will also focus on new business generation, including lead qualification and solution development in many areas of the photonics industry. As part of a team selling approach, activities include frequent communication with the customer (applications, specifications, pricing, product availability, services, etc.), contract negotiation, and coordination of design and manufacturing resources for custom solutions. Key to this role is close engagement with customers, as well as the various business units and entities across the global Thorlabs organization.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Acquire in depth knowledge of designated product lines to support pre-sales, installation, training, and other customer inquiries, as well as ensure that products and services meet or exceed customer expectations
2.Collect and analyze data to evaluate existing and potential customers, markets, and products
3.Identify opportunities in target markets and develop strategies to increase revenue in these markets
4.Key account management and foster relationships with existing customers to improve customer experience
5.Attend major tradeshows and manage leads generated
6.Manage and maintain pipeline and opportunities in CRM
7.Provide market feedback in support of new product development
8.Be the customer’s advocate within Thorlabs
9.Provides accurate sales forecasting to manager and helps define strategies for specific market growth
10.Travel expected with some travel to other Thorlabs sites (10% up to 30%)
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience and Education:
1.Minimum 5 years of experience in technical sales and/or key account management, preferably with telecommunication and/or medical customers in the photonics industry
2.Master’s degree in a photonics related field (Telecommunication, Biophotonics, Engineering, etc.)

1.Demonstrated experience in a customer centric environment
